Abstract

Communication between people has occurred through various means throughout history, and one of the most commonly preferred ones has been "speech". Since the education-training process is an indispensable part of communication, communication on creating a classroom climate, transferring new information and other issues is inevitable. Since teachers are considered the leaders and guides of the classroom, they are expected to have communication skills and therefore speaking skills. Communication gaps that may occur in the classroom can affect learning, so it is thought that teachers' speaking concerns may affect the quality of education in the classroom. In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of studies on the speaking anxiety of prospective teachers. The increase in the number of teachers graduating from education faculties along with the opening of new universities and faculties has made it questionable whether the teaching profession has been affected in terms of quantity and quality. Since communication skills can also be considered as a quality, it is important to carry out the necessary work on this issue in order to detect and eliminate negativities in advance. Therefore, the aim of this research is to determine the speaking anxiety of teacher candidates and to be a resource for precautions that can be taken in this regard. Considering this aim, it is thought that the research can make a significant contribution to both the Ministry of National Education and the literatüre. Speaking skill, which is an indispensable tool in interpersonal communication, is the basic tool of knowledge transfer for teachers. Therefore, classroom teachers should be able to convey information to students in the most understandable and effective way in the classroom environment. However, classroom teachers experiencing speaking anxiety may negatively affect classroom communication. The purpose of this research is to examine the speaking anxiety of classroom teacher candidates in terms of various variables. The research aims to reveal the factors that may affect the speaking anxiety of classroom teacher candidates and thus contributes to developing measures to help teacher candidates cope with these concerns before going into the field. The language that people use to express their feelings, thoughts and wishes is one of the basic components of the speech process. Speaking skill involves a complex combination of physical, physiological and psychological elements. In addition, for an effective speech, the speaker must have certain skills. The purpose of this study is to examine teacher candidates' ability to cope with speaking anxiety in terms of different variables. Teacher candidates are aware that they have speaking anxiety and they strive to improve themselves in this regard. Universities play an important role in reducing the speaking anxiety of teacher candidates and they know that candidates need to be supported in this regard. Teacher candidates expect support from universities on this issue and demand that these concerns be resolved in order to provide effective education for future generations. For this reason, addressing and eliminating the speaking concerns of teacher candidates during university education is of great importance for future educators to enter the field in a healthier way.
