Abstract
education so that young generations can prepare for life more effectively and ensure their continuous personal, social and psychological development. In this context, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) has included an elective course called "Adult Education and Lifelong Learning" in the new undergraduate programs it created for education faculties. The main purpose of this research is to understand and evaluate the opinions of prospective teachers on this subject. This qualitative research covers 222 teacher candidates studying in various departments at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Faculty of Arts and Sciences in the fall semester of the 2018-2019 academic year. The researchers received written opinions from the participants with open-ended questions to evaluate the data obtained through content analysis method. According to the research results, it was determined that the majority of teacher candidates were not aware of this course. Participants provided various justifications regarding the necessity of the course, their reasons for choosing it, and their expectations. Among these, individual, social and professional reasons stand out. The findings were discussed in the light of the literature and supported with various suggestions for new studies and practices on the subject. In this context, it is considered important to develop training programs to raise the awareness of teacher candidates on this important issue and to promote such courses more effectively.
