Abstract

In our country, sufficient awareness has not been raised about teacher burnout and the necessary steps have not been taken to deal with this important issue. The depletion of teachers' emotional resources is not only an individual problem, but also a critical factor for the effectiveness of our education system. Unfortunately, effective measures have not been taken to address this problem and support mechanisms regarding teachers' professional satisfaction have not been adequately provided. This deficiency can negatively impact the quality of education and impact student success in the long term. In order to deal with teacher burnout, solutions must be urgently produced at the policy and practice level, and more focus should be placed on the emotional and professional needs of teachers. The relationship between burnout and stress has been the focus of many studies. While stress refers to a state of tension that has long or short-term, positive or negative effects, burnout describes a situation that continues for a long time and has completely negative effects. Burnout is a response to chronic emotional strain and the result of unaddressed stress, especially from dealing with people intensely. It is stated that teachers' personality traits and their weak relationships with students create stress factors in events related to student crimes and disciplinary problems, and insufficient wages, injustice and low status are the main sources of intense stress. Findings from research on the relationship between the teaching profession and stress show that there is a significant relationship between these phenomena by affecting the level of burnout. However, despite the studies carried out on this situation, the fact that adequate measures have not been taken in this regard in our country may negatively affect the professional lives of teachers and challenge the healthy functioning of our education system. The teaching profession is, by its nature, a profession in which the possibility of burnout syndrome is high. Adequate level of professional satisfaction in teaching increases the quality of education and training provided in schools. When teachers experience burnout, it concerns and affects their professional productivity, their families, students, parents and therefore the whole society. Determining the burnout levels of teachers and taking measures in this context are very important for the development of the Turkish education system.
