Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the problems experienced by teachers who switched to special education teacher with the change of specialty and to develop solutions for the problems detected. The research is structured on the basis of the qualitative research method. The teachers were distributed semi-structured forms consisting of 11 questions and the Professional Satisfaction Scale consisting of 20 questions. The data were collected with the help of these. The sample of the study consists of 14 teachers who switched to being Special Education teacher by changingthe specialty in Sivas. Expert opinions were consulted to increase the reliability of the questions asked. Teachers reported that they made changes in the specialty due to reasons such as difficulties in reassignment, being redundant teachers, less course load. Feeling insufficiency in the field knowledge, problems about classroom management, not being able to reach the student level, watch duty, differences in the functioning of the course were among the main problems. It is among the suggestions to provide courses, seminars, in-service trainings to increase subject matter knowledge, guidance of experienced teachers, and the opportunity to return to the field of graduation.
