Abstract
Motivation is an internal state that pushes individuals to engage in goal-directed behavior. It is generally understood as a force that explains why people or animals initiate, continue, or terminate a particular behavior at a particular time. Motivated students are more likely to set goals and work to achieve them. Students are more likely to achieve higher and learn more when they are motivated. In this regard, it is important to carry out studies to increase motivation in students. This research aimed to examine the factors affecting classroom motivation in students. The survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the research. The population of the research consists of secondary school students studying in Samsun in the fall semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. The sample of the research consists of 555 students from the population who were included in the research voluntarily. Demographic information form and motivation scale were used as data collection tools in the research. In this context, evaluations were made in terms of students' gender, grade level, number of students in the class and location of the school. Quantitative data analysis methods were used in the analysis of the research data. In this context, the data was analyzed with the SPSS24 data analysis program. As a result of the research, it was determined that the academic motivation levels of the students were above the medium level. There was no significant difference in students' motivation in terms of gender and location of the school. On the other hand, it has been observed that a lower number of classes and a higher class level have an increasing effect on students' motivation levels in the classroom.
