Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine how the studies on fluent reading skills for primary school students have a place in the literature, which are the most common problems in students during reading, and the recommended methods for solving these problems. The study was carried out by systematic review method. The analysis of the data was provided by using the inductive method and descriptive analysis together. In the literature, research was carried out with 30 theses, including 27 master's and 3 doctoral theses, which met the conditions of being carried out at the primary school level, being an academic thesis published between 2005 and 2023, and being published in our mother tongue, Turkish. A total of 55 articles on "fluent reading" have been written since 2012 and continue until 2023. The highest number of studies were conducted in 2019. It is seen that the amount of these studies has decreased during the pandemic period. The paucity of studies conducted in previous years is a major deficiency for the literature. In the studies, it was aimed to determine the effect of strategies and techniques on fluent reading skills. The type of skill whose impact on fluent reading is the most researched is accurate reading. The participant group mostly included students, while teachers were given little space. In the study, it was given that experimental design studies, which are more quantitative methods, were included. Greater inclusion of students' parents and school counselors as a participant group in the literature studies may contribute to the findings of the studies.
